If Women Keep Going, What Do We Lose?

I work with mothers and daughters every day.
And here’s what I see: girls are learning how to be women by watching us.
So what are we teaching them, if we never pause?

We Must Stop Telling Women to “Just Keep Going”

We applaud women for their strength.
We admire their resilience.
We expect them to keep going, no matter what.

But what if this constant endurance isn’t strength at all?  What if it’s exhaustion in disguise?

I meet so many women who have quietly forgotten themselves.  Mothers who put everyone else’s needs ahead of their own.  Women who can hold a career, a family, and a hundred small daily crises together with one hand – and still believe they’re failing.

We don’t talk enough about the cost of this.  About what happens when women run on empty, about the ripple effects it has on daughters who are learning from us how to become women themselves.

Because here’s the uncomfortable truth: our girls are watching.  They’re watching how we treat ourselves, how we rest (or don’t), how we speak to ourselves, how we set boundaries, how we make space (or fail to) for joy.

And if we don’t want to raise another generation of burnt-out women, we need to start modelling something different.

That means carving out time to reconnect with ourselves, not as an indulgence, but as a responsibility.  It means remembering that “good enough” really is enough.  It means creating circles where women can tell the truth, find perspective, and rebuild some of the strength they give away so freely.

At Rites for Girls, that’s exactly what we’re doing this autumn.  Mothers Journeying Together is for mothers of daughters who want to show up for their girls with clarity and intention.  Rooted and Rising is for any woman who wants to soften self-criticism, reclaim her energy, and grow in good company.

Because when women pause, everyone benefits.  Families shift.  Friendships deepen. Communities change.

It’s not indulgence.  It’s the quiet revolution our daughters are waiting for us to lead.
